From
the Hoosic River Watershed Assessment Report, Berkshire Regional
Planning Commission, 1998:
" The Hoosic watershed has both cold and warm water fishery
habitats. The Hoosic River itself is a mix of habitats. It is a
warm water habitat downstream from the headwaters through Cheshire
Reservoir, and becomes a cold water habitat from the Reservoir outlet
to the flood control chutes in Adams, where it again becomes a warm
water habitat for the rest of its length in Massachusetts. The North
Branch of the Hoosic River is a cold water habitat until it joins
the main stem in North Adams. The Green River is a cold water habitat
until it joins the main stem in Williamstown. The majority of the
tributaries in the watershed are cold water habitats. According
to the Massachusetts Division of Fish and Wildlife, the watershed's
cold waters, fast flow, and rocky substrate support an extraordinarily
productive wild trout population. Self-sustaining populations of
brook, brown, and rainbow trout can be found to varying degrees
throughout the watershed. Game trout are also stocked in the spring
in several waterbodies in the watershed." [These areas are
listed below.]
